About Us

Death Watch; Stardoll was founded in April 2009 by two teenage girls from Illinois, United States and Scotland, United Kingdom. Both were opposed to the death penalty and envisioned an organization of young people dedicated to its abolition. The organization was founded on teen website Stardoll.com due to the large number of members on the site (currently almost 90 million). The club which they set up on the site grew quickly and now has almost 500 members.

After the success of the club, Death Watch; Stardoll branched out and created this blog. The blog is used primarily to post death penalty news stories, but has also been used to spread the word about current campaigns or petitions, and (in the early days) to answer member's questions regarding issues related to the death penalty.

In March 2010, DW; SD launched a competition titled 'Ideas in Motion'. Based on the idea that our perceptions of important issues are significantly shaped by the media, the competiton asked members to create a short video demonstrating one or more of the reasons they opposed the death penalty. Entries were posted on a new YouTube channel created for that purpose. This channel has since been used to post other videos created by those within the organization, including the footage from their first ever Online 'March' for Abolition on World Day Against the Death Penalty 2010.

In November 2010, a Facebook page was created for Death Watch; Stardoll. It is still a working progress.

Death Watch; Stardoll was set up with two main aims: (1) To support and campaign for a worldwide end to the death penalty, and (2) to educate members about the issuses concerning the death penalty and provide them with the facts to make an educated decission as to whether they support its use or not. Death Watch; Stardoll is a non-profit organization - it is run by founders Tiffany and Samantha in their free time using their own resources.

Tiffany and Samantha are always happy to hear from you. If you would like to contact them - whether it is with a message of support, a question, suggestion, or anything else - you can do so by emailing deathwatchstardoll@hotmail.co.uk
